Dear Friends of the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter,
We are excited to share some transformational news for our work. In December 2023, the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter (NOWCS) became the proud owner of a Mid-City New Orleans facility that will become the new home of our Shelter. With the demand for NOWCS’ services in mind, the Board and leadership had been searching for a property that would better meet the Shelter’s operational needs and one was identified quickly.
Formerly the Lucky Inn Hotel, NOWCS’ new facility has many features which will allow NOWCS to better meet the needs of homeless families with children. These features include increased capacity to expand from 60 clients to 100 at any given time, bedrooms with private bathrooms, a large multipurpose space for programming, a better layout, office spaces that will allow the NOWCS team to better serve our families, and the opportunity to build equity at a facility ideally situated close to public transit.
In short, this facility is a key step in laying the groundwork for a successful next 17 years of work helping each individual we serve to realize their utmost potential.
While we could not be more delighted to share this update with you, this serves as a call to action for all members of the NOWCS family who are passionate about this work. Reaching our financial goal and funding this facility will be a collaborative effort, requiring the support of donors of all types and levels. Please be on the lookout for more information from us on how you can be involved with the Home at Last Campaign.
For now, work at the new facility continues to get the building ready to welcome families later this summer. Our website and phone number remain the same, but please note our new address: 2625 Iberville Street, New Orleans, LA 70119.
We cannot wait to host you for a tour and to share more information about how you can support our work in our new home!

Breaking the Cycle
We are on a mission to enable women and their children to transition from a life of homelessness and poverty to one of stability and self-sufficiency.
We provide so much more than shelter and meals – all at no cost to our families – we also provide intensive case management during our residents’ stay and for at least 18 months afterwards, children’s programs (after-school and summer), workforce development programs, financial literacy, and more!
The People We Serve
We serve families from diverse backgrounds, including women over the age of 18 and their children, single father led and intact families, and women in all stages of their pregnancy. Many of our residents are homeless for the first time in their lives and we keep them safe and secure in a family-friendly shelter environment and provide tools to help them achieve ongoing stability and success.
