To meet the needs of vulnerable people in our community, the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We consistently operate at 90% capacity or higher.
We strive to help each individual and family transition to independence and we consistently see results year after year and we continue to focus on outcome-based services and supports that keep families from returning to the streets.
- In 2015, we helped 191 women and children in escaping the streets and starting on their journey to independence. In 2016 that number rose to 227 women and children.
- In 2016 we began serving intact homeless families and those led by single fathers.
- In 2019 we added two bedrooms, allowing us to house up to 65 people at our Shelter.
- 2/3 of the homeless people that we help are children
