Development Coordinator

Overall Responsibility:
As a Development Coordinator, you will help grow our development and fundraising efforts. The primary job duties will include:
- Under the direction of the Chief Philanthropy Officer, playing a key role in the implementation of the Shelter’s Development Plan;
- managing contribution data entry and donor acknowledgement processes;
- basic graphic design responsibilities for digital/email pieces, print needs, and social media content;
- proactively researching potential new foundation and corporate partners;
- assisting in the writing, stewarding, and reporting of grants;
- pulling and managing development reports from the database to support the CPO and Development efforts;
- facilitating individual giving programs;
- assisting with Shelter events, especially the fundraising events both large and small, and representing the Shelter at other community events year-round;
- taking leadership of the Shelter’s social media pages such that messaging supports the Shelter’s goals; both fundraising and operational;
- and generally increasing our fundraising capacity and success.
This is a new position within the Development Department. The Development Coordinator will report directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer with guidance from the Chief Executive Officer and ensure alignment with the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter’s overall mission and goals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-2 years of recent successful nonprofit fundraising experience, or equivalent experience in a parallel field from the for-profit sector such as sales, marketing, or communications.
- Incredible attention to detail in tracking email and phone communications, data entry, and multiple projects at once.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, time management, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Comfort soliciting businesses and individuals for monetary or in-kind support.
- Ability to conduct work in a friendly and professional manner with people from diverse backgrounds; strong “customer service” skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong and broad computer skills. Experience with the following programs are ideal: Boomerang, Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Canva.
- Passion for NOWCS’s mission and ability to motivate the support of others.
- Availability to work on occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background screening.
- Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong people skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
Job Skills and Requirements:
- Manage donation entry,general database cleanup, and donor stewardship activities with great attention to detail.
- Regular generation of Development reports to assist with fundraising strategy and monitoring.
- Develop and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and community organizations.
- Assist with event planning and fundraising (such as our annual Bubbles & Bubbly event, year-round fundraisers (GiveNola Day, Back to School Drives, etc.), and other supporter engagement events).
- Research local grant opportunities and assist with grant writing and reporting for lower-level grants.
- Assist the CPO with the NOWCS room sponsorship program and the capital campaign.
- Provide general support and brainstorming to promote other fundraising goals, including efforts to promote volunteers as donors and/or individual fundraisers.
- Other duties as assigned to help bring the NOWCS Development Department to full operational capacity.
- Serve as a social media strategist for the Shelter, creating and implementing a full social media calendar of content that draws from larger Development priorities and activities, as well as the Shelter’s programs and events.
- Must participate in the organization’s equity, inclusion, and diversity work.
- Represent the Shelter at community events and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Compensation
$43-$45K annually (Benefit package available)
